Special Collections

About Our Collections

Swedish publishers provide us with copies of their new children's and young adult books on a regular basis, while additions in the form of older material such as books and magazines mainly are made through donations from institutions and individuals. Over the years, the institute has received five important donations that have been added to the collections. These books can be found in our library catalogue. The Publication Series Barnbiblioteket Saga

The publication series Barnbiblioteket Saga (the children's library Saga) consists of 256 books published between 1899 and 1954. The books play a central role in the history of Swedish children's literature. Through a donation from the publisher Almqvist & Wiksell, we have acquired the publishing archive of Barnbiblioteket Saga. There is currently an ongoing research project about Barnbiblioteket Saga: The Book to the Child.

The Lennart Hellsing Collection

The Lennart Hellsing collection was donated to the institute by the Swedish writer Lennart Hellsing. The collection consists of about 1,500 titles including the first children's book ever published in Sweden: Conrad Porta's Een sköön och härligh jungfru speghel.

The Olof Hult Collection

The antiquarian bookseller Olof Hult's collection consists of nearly 1,800 titles from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.

The Gurli Linder Collection

The Gurli Linder collection consists of review copies of the books she reviewed in the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter 1900–1933.

The Gustaf Peyron Collection

Gustaf Peyron was a book collector during the turn of the century 1800-1900 with a special interest in children's books published in the 18th and 19th centuries. This collection consists of about 760 titles.
